Koniamman temple Coimbatore
Koniamman temple in Coimbatore has Devi as its deity. And is a very famous temple of the 13 century A.D. patronized by the Mysore dynasty kings. Though it is believed to be consecrated by the Irula tribes, it was developed by the kings from Mysore who considered it as Mahishamardhini in Karnataka. The Koniamman car festival is considered as the great event by the people of this city. And it is held in February end or March 1st week.It is believed that the name Coimbatore originated from the name of this deity. The temple opens at 6 A.M. to 12 Noon and evening from 4 P.M. to 9 P.M.
