Palani in Tamil Nadu is a very famous pilgrimage centre. The Palani temple’s main deity is Lord Murugan known here as Dandayuthapani. This temple is located on the hill top. Palani is considered one of the six abodes of Lord Murugan in Tamil Nadu. This temple can be reached from Coimbatore by road and rail. By road it is around 100 kms and plenty of state owned buses are available at frequent intervals.

Panguni uthiram is the most important festival in this temple. The temple can be reached by rope car or by using the steps to reach the top. A golden chariot is available which is drawn on important occasions and with the sponsor of individuals on payment. The Lord Murugan is placed inside this chariot and taken around the temple while the pilgrims take part in drawing the chariot.
